In 1327, short sighted English fisherman, Isaac Moonfleet, claimed to have caught a mermaid in his nets off the Southern coast of Britain. On bringing it to shore, the entrapped harbour seal had eaten the rest of Isaacs catch and took a bite out of his sandwich. Isaac was heard to say that “those Mermaids had a helluva an appetite, had terrible breath and really needed to do something about their facial hair!”
The World’s longest running music show aired its final episode on July 30th, 2006. Top of the Pops debuted on the Beeb (BBC) in 1964, keeping me company for many years. The Beeb does show repeats around Christmas time, and is testament to the fashion crimes committed in the 70’s and 80’s by both bands and fans alike.
In 1962, the Trans-Canada Highway is officially opened. Stretching over 7,821 km, it is one of the longest highways in the world. Drive it end to end at 62 MPH/100KPH and it’ll take you just over 78 hours and 13 minutes of continuous driving or driving 8 hours a day, it’ll take between 8 to 10 days. Probably best to bring a change of clothing and a massive packed lunch.
