New and Improved
We think this may become a classic “go to” Diamond Stone.
MPOWER’s NEW “Free Style” recess patterned Diamond Stones boast a unique appearance with an inter connected non-linear pattern.
The Design:
This striking new design helps draw the debris filled lubricant away from the abrasive surface of the diamond stone. Unlike so many other diamond stones, the distinctive look of MPOWER’s “Free Style” Router Bit Sharpener will leave you in no doubt that you made a wise purchasing decision. Our new Free Style range offers extraordinary durability and will become your default diamond stone for all your router bit and saw blade sharpening needs.
Your Feedback:
The “Free Style” Router Bit Sharpener was created directly from Proto-type tester’s feedback. Our customers shaped this tool….and had us further reduce the stones width and have the handle closer to the point of sharpening contact. Further testing confirmed the narrower diamond stone improved the ability of the user to maintain the surface contact point between diamond surface and the small flat area of a TCT router bit. The reduction of leverage feedback to the handle allowed for comfortable prolonged use when sharpening fine toothed TCT blades.
Sharpening Clearance:
For those who prefer more stability when sharpening their router bits, MPOWERs Diamond Stone Holder is uniquely designed to hold the Router Bit stone on your bench and Yes we know there’s the ubiquitous non slip mat however you need a bench corner to work from to give clearance for the cutter body to pass underneath the sharpening surface. The solution- A grippy “clearance giving” Diamond Stone Holder specifically designed for the small but perfectly formed Router Bit Sharpener.
Handy Size
The Router Bit Sharpener is the smallest Diamond Stone in the new range, however it is just as important as the other stones. Keep your bits sharp or risk spending time and energy cleaning up the burn marks left on a routed edge from a blunt bit and given its size it’s hardly going to cramp your shelves.
Double Sided 300-600 Grit
Side One Coarse 50Micron 300 grit diamond grade
For fast stock removal, Ideal for the preparation of the edge.
Side Two Fine 25Micron or 600 grit diamond grade
For honing a primary edge.
Quality Assured
Every MPOWER Router Bit Sharpener is assembled and thoroughly inspected by us at our UK factory, we ensure every diamond stone is perfect prior to packaging and despatch.
5 Year Guarantee
We are so confident of the build quality, each stone is backed by a “no fuss” 3 year extended guarantee.
FreeStyle Recess
The Highly distinctive embossed recesses provides the perfect balance between the ultra hardwearing diamond coverage and anti clog properties of the pattern.
In Surface Grit Indicator
Each side of the stone can be identified by its grade number embedded into the diamond.
Bench Mountable – Diamond Stone Holder
OK so the Router Bit Sharpener is pretty small however it hasn’t stopped us from producing a stone holder that safely holds your Router Bit Sharpener steady on a work surface. It also gives much needed elevation allowing the body of the Router Bit to comfortably clear the work surface when sharpening. The Diamond Stone Holders – DSH can also hold a range of other manufacturers’ credit cards and larger solid bench diamond stones.
Router Bits – Cutters
A sharp router cutter is one of the simplest ways to ensure that any work carried out with a router i.e a molded edge or rebate will turn out with a crisp profile with no tears or burn marks. There’s no real technique to learn sharpening bits either. From large ½” shank mutli profile bits to a tiny 2/16th flute. The Router Bit Sharpener can handle any size or type of bit easily either freehand or when its bench mounted with the Diamond Stone Holder (accessory required)
Saw Blades
A nice surprise was when we discovered just how good the Router Bit Sharpener stone was for sharpening TCT saw blades; It’s down to the contact/sharpening point being so close to the handle. It makes it easier to maintain a constant sharpening angle on both the forward and returning sharpening stroke. Literally a couple of strokes on each tooth will make the world of difference.

Cleaning Bits And Blades
Before attempting to sharpen either a router bit or saw blade. Clean off all the pitch, resin or glue build up. Soaking in a tray of Domestic oven and grill degreasant works well. Or there are specific “specialist” cleaners available but from what I can gather from woodworkers in general. There seems little difference in performance over and above the domestic cleaners. Please read and abide by the safety instructions of any cleaning product that you decide to use.
Blade And Bit Balance
It’s important for the balance of any high speed blade that when it’s being sharpened that each tooth or cutting face receives the same number of sharpening strokes.
Where To Start
When sharpening a saw blade use a marker pen to mark the point at which you start that will let you know which is the last tooth you need to sharpen.
Bedding In
All new diamond stones feel very coarse to the touch regardless of the micron or grit size of the diamond used.
This is a result of the plating process and is quite normal. The stone will bed after a few uses and the difference in grit will become more apparent.
No Pressure
Guilty as charged , As I’ve subsequently learnt I’ve always tended to use too much pressure when sharpening with Diamond stones.
It is absolutely the case that an easy light pressured sharpening stroke is all that is required to gain optimal performance from any of the Diamond stones.
To use too much pressure tears the diamond particles from its nickel bed – compromising the performance of the diamond stone and reducing its serviceable life dramatically.
Lubrication
Again its really down to personal preference as Diamond Cross sharpening stones can be used dry. We do recommend using a lubricant. Water works well or a purpose design lapping fluid but really it’s down to personal choice.
Dangerous Tools
Warning by the very nature of the tools being sharpened i.e. they are ALL designed to cut something. In the wrong hands they can be very dangerous.

Good for touch-up on jointer blades – Nicks happen. I needed to touch up a set of jointer blades due to a small nick. This sharpener did a nice job. The 300 grit side cleaned off the little high spots. The 600 grit gave them some edge. Cheaper than one set of blades so it already paid for itself.
This sharpener is a little thing. Fits in the palm of my hand. I had no trouble feeling when it was flat against the bevel. Of course the flat side of the blades was easy. It’s big enough to do the job. Easy to hold. The little handle worked as a guard while running it along the sharp blades.
Usually with nicked blades the only two things you can do are to put up with a ridge or gouge in the boards you plane, or buy new blades. Or avoid that spot when edge jointing. But if you slightly offset the blades then they mostly flatten out the ridge left by the nicks. This little tool stretches that trick a little farther.

This tool is real handy to keep in your pocket… or toolbox to sharpen a knife or as I use it for utility blades in construction. It saves many trips out of the attic or from under a house. Just a few strokes and back to cutting.Utility Blades may be cheap but they are usually not convenient to keep with me so this solves that problem.

Keeps your router bits sharp – I purchased this to sharpen by router bits. I do a lot off carving and thought this would help keep my bits sharp. So far it seems to be doing the job quite well.
Bob Hough –
It did the job as advertized on touching up some router bits. – I wish both sides of stone could be used I;e; opposite the handle.
Trevor M. –
Exactly what I was looking for. – Works well for sharpened. I made sure to also pick up some lapping fluid to make sure the stone doesn’t get clogged.
