Bedding In Your Sharpening Stone
When you first receive a new sharpening stone, it may feel much rougher than expected, regardless of the indicated micron or grit size. This initial coarseness is normal. After a few uses, the stone will settle into its intended texture, and you’ll be able to distinguish the grit level by touch alone. The labeled grit number is there to verify your assessment.
Use Minimal Pressure
To achieve the best abrasion results from any sharpening stone, use gentle, light pressure when sharpening. Pressing too hard can dislodge diamond particles from the nickel-plated surface, reducing the stone’s effectiveness.
